Barbara Pualani Ke Anuenue Finneran

Auntie Barbara, as her students fondly call her, studied and taught under Kumu Hula Joan S. Lindsey for 12 years before moving to San Diego and opening her own halau (studio). Pualani’s Hula Studio opened in 1976 and has been sharing Hula and other Polynesian traditions since that time. Auntie Barbara strives to instill in her haumana (students) the deep respect she was taught for the time honored traditions that are the lifeline of the Hawaiian culture.

Karen Kealoha Ku’ulei Na Limahana Finneran-Swatek

Kumu Karen also studied under Kumu Hula Joan S. Lindsey for 12 years. Upon moving to San Diego, she continued her studies under her mother, Kumu Barbara Finneran. Kumu Karen has been teaching in the halau (studio) for the last 12 years, working side-by-side with her mother. Respect, honor, and aloha are values Karen seeks to instill in the haumana (students) so that they may carry on the traditions of the Hula.
